Our story
Discover more about Mariposa Energía, from its beginnings in San Pedro
de Alcántara in 2019 to becoming the best solar panel company in Spain.
Where it all began
Mariposa Energía was founded in November 2019 in San Pedro de Alcántara in Spain. The concept for the business came about following CEO Martin Tye’s own experiences in dealing with electricity companies in Spain and his desire to offer consumers a better experience. From the very start, a set of core values have underpinned everything.

Cheaper energy and electricity bills that are easy to understand
A multi-lingual team who speak your language.
At the time energy switch, while commonplace in the UK, was a relatively new concept in Spain so there was a lot of work to be done to communicate just how easy it is to switch energy supplier.
Mariposa goes solar
In the summer of 2020 the solar arm of the business was launched. While Spain has always had the perfect climate for generating solar energy, at the time there were relatively few solar installations in the country. That was due to the ‘sun tax’, a controversial tax that was previously applied to those who wanted to generate their own solar electricity.
Thankfully that tax was abolished, paving the way for property owners in Spain to install solar panels. Mariposa Energía began installing solar in Andalucia and soon, due to its success, started expanding to cover the whole of Spain.
Alicante offices opens
In June 2022 Mariposa Energía opened its first Alicante office, to provide a team on the ground further north and to cater for the huge demand it was experiencing for its solar services in Valencia and Catalonia.
National distributors of Livoltek products
In the summer of 2023 Mariposa Energía won the contract to be the national distributor of Livoltek products, a premium brand of solar components.
Mariposa Energía powers cars with solar energy
Around the same time the company added EV chargers to its green energy mix. The sleek, high performance EV charger allows electric car owners to charge their vehicle from home and also works seamlessly with solar panel installations, meaning that consumers can now power both their home and car with solar energy.
Alicante depot opens
Mariposa Energía relocates its Alicante office to a brand new depot in the autumn of 2023, capable of accommodating both its solar specialists and installation teams, as well as acting as a warehouse for its solar components.
Marbella office expands
As the Mariposa Energía team grew and grew there was a need for more space and so the company extended its San Pedro offices to two floors.
Mariposa Construcciones Y Reformas
At the start of 2024 following demand from its clients for building and reform works, Mariposa Energía launched another new arm of its business, Mariposa Construcciones Y Reformas catering for all types of construction work from new builds to minor works across the Costa del Sol.
